Senior Scientist, Mass Spectrometry
Relay Therapeutics
The Opportunity:
We are looking for a self-motivated person with broad knowledge and hands-on experience with mass spectrometry and other characterization techniques. We are applying state of the art technologies towards the discovery, characterization, and optimization of small molecule therapeutics for targets presenting high unmet medical needs.
You will play a central role in the development and implementation of novel mass spectrometry-based methods to help characterize drug targets and discover potential small molecule drug candidates. Further, you will plan, develop, optimize and execute experiments for the binding affinity, physicochemical analysis and structural characterization of these drugs. This is a unique opportunity that will expose you to a wide range of activities and you will be expected to contribute experimentally, as well as intellectually, to the progress of our drug discovery efforts and development of our growing portfolio.
Your Role:
- You will be pivotal in Relay’s mass spectrometry-based characterization efforts
- You will be involved in the development and application of mass spec-based compound screening technologies, such as affinity selection MS
- You will develop and use methods such as peptide mapping, HDX-MS, ion-mobility, and native MS for the characterization of drug targets and their interactions to support the drug discovery efforts of various projects
- You should expect that analysis, interpretation, documentation, presentation and discussion with project teams around the impact of your data on the general drug discovery strategy will be part of your day
- You will maintain awareness of the current and relevant scientific literature, particularly in areas of mass spectrometry, and actively apply new concepts as appropriate
- We will depend on you to assess, adopt, and implement current and new methodologies and experimental techniques complementing mass spectrometry that will improve and enable drug discovery
- Your voice is important. You will be a key contributor and collaborator on multidisciplinary teams where your opinions will be highly valued
Your Background:
- You earned a PhD in Chemistry, Biophysics, or a related discipline
- You have spent at least 4 years gaining relevant industry and/or postdoctoral experience
- You have hands-on experience with biomolecule mass spectrometry, developing and using state-of-the-art methods to characterize drug targets, as well as experience in small-molecule characterization and binding to drug targets through affinity-based MS and other methods. Experience in HDX-MS and other protein characterization methods is a plus.
- You have worked on mass spectrometers from different vendors
- You're an articulate, open communicator with the ability to analyze, interpret and present data in a clear manner
- You are scientifically curious and have demonstrated a willingness to strategically impact the drug discovery process of various projects
- You have a track record of scientific excellence as reflected by high impact, peer reviewed publications and/or patents

About Relay Therapeutics
Relay Therapeutics is a clinical-stage precision medicines company transforming the drug discovery process with the goal of bringing life-changing therapies to patients. Built on unparalleled insights into protein motion and how this dynamic behavior relates to protein function, we aim to effectively drug protein targets that have previously been intractable, with an initial focus on enhancing small molecule therapeutic discovery in targeted oncology. Our Dynamo platform integrates an array of leading-edge experimental and computational approaches to provide a differentiated understanding of protein structure and motion to drug these targets. We have built a world-class team of leading experts from each of these disciplines, and they are driven by a deep collaboration at every step of our drug discovery process.
Our team is equal parts fearless and relentless, with a shared passion for working collaboratively in intellectually stimulating environments. If you’re excited by the challenge of putting protein motion at the heart of drug discovery and passionate about making a difference in the lives of patients, join us!
