Location: UK (Remote)Senior Firmware Engineer to deliver embedded firmware for medical devices from early concept through production. Own firmware on projects and work closely with hardware, manufacturing, and quality. Experience shipping production-grade embedded firmware for medical/regulated products; comfortable close to hardware and on resource-constrained systems. Accountable for firmware quality and safety.What you’ll do:- Develop and maintain high-reliability, high-quality embedded firmware- Advise on technical implications/risks in alignment with roadmap- Collaborate with hardware, product, and design for integration and reliability- Prioritize and resolve firmware defects by severity and impact- Maintain automated testing, CI, and deployment pipelines within regulatory constraints- Produce concise documentation for audits and regulatory submissions- Maintain and update cybersecurity risk register for firmware componentsWhat you’ll bring:- Strong embedded programming in C/C++- Hands-on RTOS (preferably FreeRTOS), scheduling/synchronization, debugging timing-critical code- Experience integrating/validating data from multiple sensors- Use metrics to assess performance, reliability, and engineering effectiveness- Familiarity with roadmap planning and delivery trade-offs- Solid understanding of WiFi, TCP/IP, BLE; microprocessor architectures; digital electronics; hardware–firmware interaction- Awareness of regulatory requirements for medical devices; ability to understand UK/US healthcare workflowsNice to have:- Experience in regulated industries (medical, aerospace, automotive)- Secure bootloaders, OTA updates, embedded cryptography- Low-power/battery-powered devices; Python/scripting; low-level drivers/BSPs- Familiarity with BARR C:2018 or MISRA; DSP algorithms; AWS IoT and cloud-connected embedded systems
